Unique Ways to Use Your Leftover Tile

by Stockett Staff

Swimming in extra kitchen tiles? Here are our ideas.

You’ve finally finished renovating your new kitchen or bathroom. Everything looks just like you imagined it would. The appliances are gleaming, the custom kitchen additions are stunning, and the beautiful tile floor brings it all together. But there’s one thing that still bothering you: the huge stack of extra tiles sitting in the corner.

Having trouble figuring out what to do with it all? You could try to return the excess, but where’s the fun in that? There are plenty of creative ways to use leftover tiles. Here are a few of our favorites.

Tile the Walls

Having trouble deciding whether you should wallpaper or paint the kitchen walls? Is neither option really speaking to you? Then choosing to tile the walls might be a great choice. If your extra stone tiles came in a variety of colors, pick and choose which ones to use on the walls. The great thing about using leftover tiles is that the walls are sure to match the floor the tiles came from. That said, there's no need to spend time staring at color swatches!

Mix It Up

How many extra tiles do you have? How many materials? If you find yourself with an eclectic selection of leftovers, you might be tempted to stick to one flavor and throw out the rest. Instead, contemplate using all of those disparate parts in one beautiful design. Varying hexagons can be perfect for a bathroom floor, while a beautiful mix of colors and textures is perfect for a mosaic backsplash.

Use Tile on a Smaller Scale

Your leftover tile project doesn’t have to be huge just because your remodel was. You can use leftover tile for smaller things as well. Think about tiling a small end or coffee table, or maybe adding a custom frame to your favorite mirror. A cute tiled cheese tray or coaster might be an option. Look around the house and decide what could use an additional bit of tile flair.

Bring in a Designer

Tiles are a material. Like any other material, they can be used in almost limitless ways. You could create tile design patterns for your backsplash, unique pieces or artwork, distinctive statues, and more. But unless you’re an artist, you might not be sure where to start. This is where the help of a local designer could come into play. If you’re not sure where to start with that process, ask a tile and granite provider in the area. They’re sure to have some ideas!
